Interview with Brad
Don't you think this is a little extreme?
Some people thought Picasso was extreme.
Are you comparing yourself to a world-class artist?
Artist? Nah, there's no way I could be like that -- I played football in highschool.
Okay, so why are you doing this?
I think this is something most people think about doing -- but they never get around to it until they retire. I can't wait that long -- and I know if it doesn't happen now, it never will. (For more info, see "the mission")
What are you going to do with the money that gets donated?
My estimated budget is $2,500 -- which I plan to raise by pan-handling on the side of the road in Houston, doing odd-jobs and advertising money/donations through this website. At the end of the trip, if I have any money left over -- it will go to Amor Ministries, which is a Christian housebuilding ministry in Tijuana, Mexico.
Where are you going to sleep?
I'm going to build a wood camper in the bed of my truck (pictures are in "the truck" heading) and fill the inside with foam insulation and a mattress. It's not the Ritz-Carlton, but it'll do.
How will you eat?
Cheaply. Mostly sandwiches.
How do your parents feel about this?
My mom's okay with it, as long as I don't go to Iraq or meet any terrorists along the way (you have to know her to understand). My Dad is still not excited about the idea.
So, where all are you going to go?
The basic plan is to start in College Station around Dec 15th. I'll then drive to San Diego, head up the coast of California and take a "right" towards Las Vegas. I hope to stay in Vegas for one night and then be in Colorado by Christmas day, which is when and where my mom and stepdad will be... stay a few days there and then continue toward the east coast. Hit the coast somewhere around North Carolina and start South. Go down around Florida and take another "right" back towards Texas. The details are kinda sketchy right now, but I'm working on it.
What are you most worried about?
Honestly? My truck. I've put it through a lot -- I hope it's up to this. Anyway, I plan on getting rid of it once I get a solid, paying job... so this may be our last trip together.
